This summer marks a year since I was elected as the Member of Parliament for Worsley & Eccles, and I still feel incredibly grateful for the trust so many people placed in me. As someone who grew up in Eccles, this role means a great deal to me. My aim has always been simple: I want Worsley & Eccles to be a great place to live, work and raise a family.
It’s been a year of listening, learning and taking action. I’m proud of what we’ve started together and I’m excited for the work ahead.
In the Community
Over the past year, I’ve spent time across the constituency, from Cadishead to Wardley, Astley to Eccles, meeting residents, visiting schools and local businesses, and supporting community events. I’ve seen first-hand the passion and commitment people have for our area.
I’ve supported thousands of individuals through casework over the past year. Whether it’s housing, health, transport or benefits, I’ve worked hard to help people deal with issues involving Government departments and get the support they need. In the last 12 months alone, over 1,000 personal cases have been logged.
Alongside this, I’ve received more than 4,400 policy enquiries. These cover legislation, national and international matters, public campaigns and other issues that are important to people across our community.
Representing You in Parliament
In Westminster, I’ve spoken up for Worsley & Eccles on the issues that matter. I’ve taken part in debates, sat on committees, raised questions with ministers, and worked with colleagues to push for better services and stronger support for our communities.
Whether it’s standing up for workers’ rights, fighting for better transport links, or pushing for NHS improvements, my focus has always been on delivering real change.
Supporting You
One of the commitments I made when elected was to be open and accessible. I’ve held monthly surgeries across the constituency and responded to emails, calls, letters, and online messages. I know how important it is to be available when people need support or want to raise an issue.
If something matters to you, it matters to me – I’m here to listen and help where I can.
A New Labour Government
The past 12 months have also marked the first year of a new Labour Government. We’ve already begun the work of rebuilding our public services, making communities safer, improving job security and tackling the cost of living. From introducing the Employment Rights Bill to strengthen protections at work to the Renters Rights Bill which gives tenants more security and fairness, real progress is being made. There is still much more to do, but I am confident we are moving in the right direction and I will continue working to ensure people in Worsley & Eccles feel the benefit.
Looking Ahead
I’m proud of what we’ve achieved together in this first year, and I’m looking forward to building on that progress in the years ahead. My focus remains on delivering the manifesto for change that we were elected on, while continuing to listen, support and stand up for everyone in Worsley & Eccles.
Thank you to everyone who has been in touch, shared ideas or reached out for support. I’m here to work for you and alongside you, and that commitment will remain at the heart of everything I do.
If you live in Worsley & Eccles and have any questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to get in touch.
