The Eccles Post Office will remain open and continue offering its full range of services following the confirmation of a new franchise arrangement. This change is part of Post Office Limited’s national transition to a fully franchised network, scheduled for completion by Autumn 2025.
Michael Wheeler MP has been informed that First Class Retail, led by experienced postmaster Mikesh Parekh, will take over the operation of the Eccles branch. Mr Parekh currently runs nine other Post Office branches across Greater Manchester. The handover is expected to take place by September 2025.
Importantly, the Eccles branch will remain at its current site – 63 Church Street, Eccles, M30 0NS – for the foreseeable future. There are no planned changes to opening hours or services, with the exception of extended opening on Tuesday mornings to improve accessibility for local residents.
Post Office Limited has confirmed that staff at the Eccles branch will be supported throughout the transition. The full range of Post Office services will continue to be available to residents.
While this change does not involve a formal public consultation, Post Office Limited has pledged that any potential future relocation, unlikely to occur before Spring 2026, would be subject to full local consultation.
Michael Wheeler MP has requested a meeting with both Post Office Limited and First-Class Retail to seek further assurances for the long-term future of the Eccles branch.
“I understand how strongly residents feel about local services like the Post Office,” said Michael Wheeler MP. “I’ll continue to meet and speak with the Post Office to ensure Eccles retains the vital services our community depends on.”
